ISPA Gets Personal with Internet Security
ISPA’s Annual Parliamentary Advisory Forum

This year ISPA’s annual parliamentary advisory forum (PAF) addressed the important issue of personal Internet security.

The forum was well attended by key industry players, government officials, parliamentarians and lawyers who participated in a Q&A seminar.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor the Lord Broers, Chair of the House of Lords Science and Technology, leading the inquiry into Personal Internet Security. Lord Broers underlined the importance of educating users on the nature of the threat faced on the Internet.

Head of Marketing at Brightview, Matthew Henton and Information Security Specialist at LogicaCMG, Dave Martin provided the industry perspective.

A Q&A session followed with the panel concluding along with many of the delegates that only a combined multi-stakeholder approach targeting technological factors and the awareness of individual users would increase security.

The PAF is one of ISPA’s main events, providing the ISP industry with a platform to discuss a different regulatory issue both relevant and timely for the Internet sector. Members are invited to participate in all ISPA events.

‘Hardcopy’, ISPA’s bi-annual magazine is now available, focusing on the issue of ‘net neutrality and how a US debate has migrated over to affect the UK ISP market.

One significant issue of the debate is the filtering of traffic by ISPs to meet the demands of customers constantly pushing for faster services with higher latency.

Three ISPA members give their views on this topical issue.
