What Does The Gower’s Review Mean For ISPs?
ISPA’s first legal forum of the year
ISPA treated its members to the first legal forum of the year by taking an in-depth look at the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property.
The event was held at Addleshaw Goddard and chaired by Clive Gringas, partner at Olswang and Chair of the ISPA Legal Forum, who gave delegates the opportunity to air their views on the Gowers Review.
Adrian Brazier, Business Relations Manager for eBusiness, broadband and digital content at the DTI, emphasized the need for ISPs and rightsholders to work together to show the Government that reasonable progress was being made; while Iain Connor, Associate at Addleshaw Goddard recognised the need for change to the current system, but spoke of the need for evolution rather than revolution. Simon Persoff, Director of Regulatory Affairs at Orange, outlined the need for a process that balanced the rights of all stakeholders including consumers, whose voice he believes appeared to be missing from the review.
The ISPA Legal Forum brings together providers of Internet services, the UK's top multimedia law firms and government officials for an afternoon of presentations, debate and networking over canapés.
