ISPA To Host Sensational Summer Reception
AGM & Summer Reception

Internet tycoons will soon be able to exchange a day in the hot July sun for a cool afternoon sizzle at the Internet Service Provider’s Association’s (ISPA) Summer Reception.

The event will be held on the 10th July at the National Liberal Club, just a short walk from Embankment and Westminster tube stations.

Sponsored by Swedish company NetClean, who have combined years of experience in data processing and technical research to develop a unique solution for identifying, blocking downloads and preventing the distribution of child abuse images, the event will begin at 6.30pm.

ISPA members are also invited to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 5pm, before the Summer Reception.

Following the AGM, ISPA members, government officials and industry leaders will be able to join MP Don Foster, Liberal Democrat spokesman for Culture, Media and Sport for a keynote address.

Some food for thought will be provided after Mr Foster’s speech with drinks and canapés available during the reception where Industry stakeholders and government representatives will be able to share stories and discuss opportunities for the industry as well as anticipate challenges in the year ahead.

Anyone interested in attending the AGM and Summer Reception can reserve a space and receive more information by contacting the ISPA Secretariat.

The National Liberal Club is located at 1 Whitehall Place, London SW1A 2HE.

IPv6 and the Communications Data Bill

This month the president and chief executive of ICANN, Paul Twomey, suggested that ISPs aren’t implementing IPv6 across their networks.

"This is not a Y2K problem, but enterprises using IPv4 need to think that the network will become IPv6," said Twomey. "How are you going to interoperate IPv4 and IPv6 networks? And guess what? They're not asking questions and businesses don't want ISPs not making plans. This is a classic case; ISPs won't change unless customers ask them for it."

ISPA said that this was not strictly true and some ISP members had already deployed IPv6 across their networks

In Gordon Brown’s draft Queen’s Speech he outlined his proposals for the Communications Data Bill, which includes plans to implement the EU Directive on the retention of communications data into UK law (2006/24/EC) and to modify the procedures for acquiring communications data and to allow this data to be retained.

ISPA responded with the following statement:

"ISPA has been in touch with the Home Office and is waiting for further information about the proposed Communications Data Bill.

In particular we want to know more about the Government's intentions regarding "modifying the procedures for acquiring communications data."

As the Government plans to publish this Bill in draft for pre-legislative scrutiny later this year, ISPA is looking forward to participating fully in the consultation process."
