ISPA's 4th Annual Parliamentary Advisory Forum a Great Success!

17 January 2000

The UK's new E-Envoy Alex Allan made his first public address today at the Internet Services Providers Association's 4th annual Parliamentary Advisory Forum in the Houses of Parliament.

"The Forum is an excellent opportunity to bring together representatives from the Internet industry with MPs to discuss the key challenges facing the UK Internet industry", said Clare Gilbert, ISPA Council Member.

Patricia Hewitt MP, the Minister for E-Commerce, also gave her support in her address to the Forum, highlighting the importance of competition and liability issues.

ISPA was overwhelmed by the demand from both MPs and Industry representatives for places at the meeting. This interest was demonstrated in today's lively discussion, led by a panel of MPs from the three main parties.

The sponsors of the Forum, Cisco Systems, Deloitte & Touche and Quallaby, each gave informative presentations outlining their views on the Internet of the future.

"The Internet has become a hot political issue, and the Industry is keen to make the Government aware of its opinions to ensure that any future regulation is effective", said Clare Gilbert.

 Ends.
