How can barriers to broadband roll out be busted in a collaborative way?

The DCMS set up the Barrier Busting Task Force (BBTF) with collaboration and facilitation at its heart. With the consultations ongoing, there are many calling for the Government to be more ambitious, whilst others are concerned that existing good will and relationships could be jeopardised though increased legislation.

This panel will explore:

  • Are there other ways to reduce these barriers outside wider legislation?

  • Is the BBTF going far enough to facilitate this, and where would industry like to see them do more?

  • Is the Government doing enough to prioritise the delivery of their full fibre ambitions?

Panellists:

  • Pete McDougall, Head of Barrier Busting Task Force, DCMS

  • James Fredrickson, Regulatory and Public Policy Lead, Gigaclear

  • Charles Trotman, Senior Economist, CLA

  • Catherine Colloms, Director Corporate Affairs, Openreach

Producers of internet browsers are currently considering whether to enable DNS over HTTPS, a new internationally approved standard for DNS resolution, as the default option for their products.

This panel will explore:

  • What are the opportunities and risks of the widespread adoption of these standards?

  • Do these standards risk pushing margins of the internet value chain?
