ISPA Conference 2019 - Securing Network Rollout and Integrity

The Annual ISPA Conference, held at the offices of legal partner Bird&Bird, was another packed event with a range of key industry figures speaking across the morning. The conference included panels on business broadband, DNS-over-HTTPS and broadband barriers, as well as fireside chats with DCMS outlining the Government’s vision for the sector, and Openreach, laying out their own plans for full fibre deployment. The morning also included a presentation from Netgem highlighting how ISPs can maximise ROI by offering a TV service alongside their voice/broadband products and Salumanus used the conference to introduce their brand and products to UK ISPs. Further details of the event can be found here.

DNS-over-HTTPS, online safety, wayleaves and consumer protection on ISPA’s policy agenda

Over the past month, the liability subgroup have been busy engaging with members and key stakeholders about emerging issues pertaining to online safety, encryption and post-Brexit copyright. The subgroup will meet in the coming weeks to finalise ISPA’s response to the Online Harms White Paper.

The broadband subgroup meets next week to further develop ISPA’s position on issues including consumer protection, the upcoming wayleaves legislation and Ofcom’s approach to remedies consultation. Over the last month the broadband subgroup has also responded to the Department for Transport consultation on streetworks to put forward members’ views on the regulations around resurfacing roads.

This month articles from our Partners

Over 500 ISPs and 350 System Integrators from Central Europe chose DCN switches for their networks in 2018 alone. Having met the rigid criteria of the National Educational Network project (OSE) aimed at providing free high-speed Internet access to schools all over Poland, DCN S4600P-28P-SI model outperformed its competitors and was implemented in the school network (almost 2000 devices) last year.

DCN S4600-28P-SI L2 Gigabit Switch offering 24-port 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 + 4-port 100/1000Base-X SFP is an interesting and cost-efficient solution. The forwarding rate of 42Mpps and a non-blocking matrix prevent the switch from capacity loss even at maximum load and guarantee high performance. This device provides full support for multicast technology (1000 multicast groups, IGMP Snooping and MVR), which is of prime importance for IPTV operators. A wide range of VLAN table enabling network division to smaller units in different locations, advanced DHCP and QoS features make it an attractive solution for ISPs and telecommunication companies. The implemented security mechanisms optimize the management of on-line users and protect the network against unauthorised access.
