The Future of wholesale & retail ISP models

20 October at 2pm – Hopin

ISPA is very pleased to welcoming you to the final of its three ISP Business Model webinars on 20 October (2pm-4pm) to explore the future wholesale and retail ISP models.

The broadband market continues to evolve and innovate with increased choice in wholesale networks as the established national networks are being complemented by newer independent networks offering wholesale services and new opportunities for retail ISPs. The F20 gigabit subsidy scheme will only increase wholesale options with its open access obligations for those that help deliver the programme. Come and join us to discuss:

  • How different networks will work together in the future?
  • What makes a successful wholesale network?
  • What are service providers looking for from their wholesale partner?
  • How retail ISPs can monetize new services and stand out in a very competitive market?

Book your complimentary seat here.

ISPA PARTNERS

Full Fibre Infrastructure Partner

CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform, recognises that the connectivity market is fiercely competitive right now and changing!  As people’s home connectivity needs intensify, CityFibre believes ISPs have an excellent, new opportunity on their doorstep.

Emma Goodwin, Head of Consumer Sales explains; “Full Fibre is unquestionably the future. There is enormous potential for ISPs that have already honed their skills and experience in the business market to address the needs of today’s consumers. We expect to see exponential growth in this market, and it will be exciting to watch those who maximise the opportunity available here.”

CityFibre’s build programme is progressing swiftly, and that’s really exciting for the channel. By 2025 the network aims to reach 8m premises, so there is every reason for ISP partners to offer and provide Full Fibre services to consumers as well as businesses.

Forward-thinking ISPs have already identified this opportunity, and CityFibre is enabling them to unlock new revenue streams by addressing the intensifying connectivity needs of today’s consumer market. Goodwin believes ISPs can gain an early-adopter advantage by expanding their portfolio to reach residential customers and CityFibre is ready to help them achieve just that!

Unboxing Terragraph - For fast, resilient internet at a significantly lower cost

This month at our Dublin warehouse, we unboxed Edgecore Networks' MLTG-360 Metrolinq, a Terragraph-Certified Product. Terragraph technology was developed by Facebook and partners like Edgecore to solve the urban bandwidth challenge and last mile connectivity issues.

Global IP traffic is due to increase threefold over the next 5 years and the number of devices connected to the internet is expected to double in that time. Access to high-speed broadband connectivity is limited by poor last mile connections, with more than 1 billion people relying on outdated last mile infrastructure. Fiber to the home can be cost-prohibitive and slow to deploy in some markets, due to factors such as costly right of way permissions, trenching etc. As Edgecore's MLTG-360 distribution node can be mounted on existing street furniture, and Terragraph technology operates on the 60 GHz unlicensed band, it is faster to deploy than new fiber infrastructure, providing fiber-like connectivity at a fraction of the cost, making it ideally suited for applications such as fixed wireless access, smart city, small cell backhaul, and outdoor Wi-Fi.

We delve into these features in our latest blog and our unboxing video shows you what it looks like out of the box.

Transitioning copper services to All IP

Openreach, along with the OTA2, runs monthly working group events with Industry and wider audiences affected by the transition from copper services to All IP.  Recently our events have become more interactive, gaining insight into how our audiences are feeling about the move to All IP and where our challenges lie.

We’ve polled our audiences over the past two events with a view to understanding what they feel are the biggest challenges they face in the transition to All IP.  We also asked what stage they are at with their migration planning.  Migration planning is hugely important in the successful transition from copper products to All IP and so is the Communications Provider (CP) journey.  See video below for polling results from the “Transitioning Copper to All IP” working group meeting of 30 June 2021.

These working group events are a great way of bringing together those involved, sharing key findings from our Stop Sell trials, hearing from CPs on their experiences so far and understanding what’s important to them.

To join future working group events subscribe here, you will also receive our quarterly newsletter with all the up-to-date information on the transition from copper services to All IP.
