ISPA discusses evolving online regulatory space

ISPA’s liability subgroup convened in November is discuss various issues in the evolving online regulatory space, including: the progress of the Online Safety White Paper and the Age Verification legislation,  proposals for a new ‘administrative site blocking’ process and developments related to the control of DNS at ISP-level. ISPA will continue to engage with key stakeholders over the coming months to ensure that our members’ voices are heard.

ISPA prepares responses for DCMS Consultations

The Broadband Subgroup met to discuss the latest consultations published by DCMS and Ofcom, highlighting the various issues of members to be included in the ISPA responses. This meeting was followed by two roundtables in DCMS attended by Secretariat to discuss the consultations on Wayleave Agreements and New Build Connectivity further with a range of stakeholders, and Government. The responses are being drafted and will be published on the ISPA website following the deadline later this month.

The 13th Parliament & Internet Conference took place on the 20th November, hosted by Nigel Huddleston MP. The panel discussions on content regulation, cyber security and AI prompted fruitful debate.

We were delighted to welcome the Digital Secretary, Rt Hon Jeremy Wright QC MP, as keynote speaker. During his speech, the Secretary of State announced the Board of the new Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. He also discussed the Government’s ambition to ensure there is appropriate regulation in the tech sector, whilst encouraging innovation and investment in the UK.  His speech was published in full on the DCMS website and can be found here.

Shadow Digital Minister, Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, launched Labour’s consultation on digital skills, highlighting the importance of promoting digital literacy and ensuring we have a technical education system in the UK that works for the digital economy.

ISPA meets Korean Copyright Protection Agency

On the 21st November ISPA met with KCOPA, the Korean Copyright Protection Agency, to discuss copyright protection issues, self-regulation and related policy trends in the UK. The KCOPA team said that they found the meeting to be informative and productive.
