Consultation time for our policy team

Broadband Universal Service Obligation Consultation (USO)
The Department of Science, Innovation and Technology is conducting a consultation on the future of the Broadband USO to which ISPA is responding.
Future of TV Distribution
Ofcom is looking at the implications for the move from digital terrestrial television (DTT) to IPTV. ISPA is drafting a response, which will be shared with members before submission on 12th December.
Growth Duty and ‘Smarter Regulation’
The Government has announced a new consultation which seeks views on the revised statutory guidance for the Growth Duty, including on the drivers and behaviours of economic growth identified in the guidance, alongside additional questions on reporting on the Growth Duty and improvements to the regulatory process. In addition, in October, DBT published a call for evidence on smarter regulation, which tries to understand what works well and what could be improved in how regulators operate to deliver for the sectors they serve, as well as any further steps the Government can take to reform the existing stock of regulation. ISPA is considering preparing a response to both of these consultations and is starting to engaging with members.

Save the date for the Parliament & Internet Conference 2024

In 2024, the annual Parliament and Internet Conference will take place on Wednesday 20th March from 1.45pm to 5.30pm in the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, London. This time, our central theme will be focusing on the objectives for UK connectivity by 2030 and how the next UK Government, regulators and industry can strategically work together over the next 5 years to achieve them.

We are delighted to announce that the Rural Connectivity Champion, Simon Fell MP, is our Parliamentary sponsor for the event, which will feature high profile keynote speakers and panellists from across industry, Government, and leading civil society organisations. Bringing together 150 senior delegates, conversations will focus on highlighting key policy issues, promoting the sector to policy makers and creating discourse to help shape the future of regulation in the UK internet sector.

This event is especially important in 2024 with the General Election on the horizon, and it will create an ideal opportunity for the sector to help shape the narrative and amplify the areas they believe are crucial for policy makers and the sector to focus on over the next 5 years of governance through to 2030.

With a wide array of key focus areas this year’s event will be critical for the UK’s internet sector and we want as many members in the room to engage with policy makers of today and tomorrow.

CityFibre is the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform and with existing networks in more than 60 towns and cities, we provide wholesale connectivity to multiple business and consumer service providers, local authorities and mobile operators. Our full fibre network rollouts are well underway, with plans to pass up to 8 million homes and businesses with open-access full fibre infrastructure. A growing number of Gigabit City projects have been announced for full-city rollouts and we continue to prime our existing network assets for expansion.

Our established open-access approach is already creating opportunities for ISP partners to take an active part in serving the demands from consumers and businesses for full fibre connectivity, be it FTTP broadband or Ethernet. We’ve recently announced several new partnerships, both with consumer-focused ISPs and with traditionally business-focused ISPs who recognise the value they can bring to serving consumers. For each, we provide a dedicated and comprehensive programme of support that enables them to move fast and win new customers. Visit our website
