In response to the Communications Market Report published today by Ofcom, ISPA welcomes new figures which show that broadband is getting faster, more data is being consumed and there is an increase in superfast broadband take-up, using a mix of technologies.
We are particularly pleased to note the following:
- The increase in average residential connection speeds from 29 to 36Mbit/s from 2015-16 is indicative of the extensive work of ISPA members to secure faster and more reliable broadband speeds. This rise in take-up of faster data networks has also enabled a 36% increase in data usage for average residential broadband connections.
- The results show a diverse mix of technologies are being used to deliver superfast broadband, with a 21% increase in fibre broadband (both Fibre-to-the-premises and Fibre-to-the-cabinet) in the year from 2015.
- There has also been an increase in superfast connections, with 44% of fixed broadband connections now receive actual download speeds of at least 30Mbit/s and 8% had an average speed of at least 100Mbit/s.
