Digital Economy Bill Receives Royal Assent
The Digital Economy Bill received Royal Assent on Thursday this week. The Bill completed its legislative passage as the final stages were fast-tracked through Parliament following the announcement of the General Election and the early dissolution of Parliament.
The Bill, which contains new measures to establish a broadband USO set at 10Mbps, a new age verification obligation on commercial pornographic sites with ISP blocking for non-compliance, strengthened consumer protection and online copyright infringement. ISPA has been working with members, Parliament and Government as the Bill progressed through Parliament and will continue to do so around implementation.
