ISP Business Model Summit and AGM
The inaugural ISP Business Model Summit and ISPA's Annual General Meeting took place on 19th September in the offices of DLA Piper in London.
The event started with ISPA AGM where two resolutions were passed and six Council members were elected. These were five existing Council members - Ali Law from Sky, Jacquie Mellor from Virgin Media, Steven Axon from M247, Matt Peake from Verizon and Malcolm Hutty from LINX; and we welcomed one new member - Thomas Mangin from Exa Networks.
This was followed by the Business Model Summit which saw a diverse range of high-profile speakers and panellists discuss best practices and insights related to the impact of new technological solutions and services on ISP’s business models.

ISPA's Policy Update
As usual, September has been a busy month as ISPA finalised responses to several consultations due as civil servants and Ofcom officials return from their summer breaks. We finalised our response to the Electronic Communication Code and the Streetworks Manager consultations after seeking member feedback, and have started to prepare our views on Government plans to change consumer advocacy in Telecoms and the ongoing inquiry into 5G and national security.
ISPA also continued to engage with civil servants and MPs on the issue of DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) with our attention clearly focused on ensuring that this new internet standard is implemented with UK customers and providers in mind.
We are also keeping an eye on online safety and related developments and are looking forward to further engagement with Government on the recent rollout funding announcement.

Salumanus
Dear ISP, do you know that the Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology can bring you direct benefits? Yes! The xWDM technology is also for you!
Although you might consider it complicated and dedicated only to the big guys, it’s within your reach, and we can help you make the first steps and get confident in it. To put it briefly, Wavelength Division Multiplexing means the virtualisation of your fibre, and depending on the technology applied you can send several independent transmissions over a single fibre.
What does it mean in practice? First, you can reduce transmission and fibre lease costs and the costs of connecting new clients to the network. Second, you can optimize your current resources and increase your network security and efficiency. Third, the WDM technology will save your time and make you more independent! How to achieve that? netgem.tv bundles ‘best entertainment service’ with Isle of Wight ISP WightFibre
Internet TV and home entertainment leader, netgem.tv, has announced its partnership with Isle of Wight’s Ultrafast fibre broadband company, WightFibre, to launch its best entertainment streaming campaign.
Since the 8th of August, WightFibre and netgem.tv have been offering a broadband package consisting of fibre broadband, TV, and home phone services all in one contract from £25.48 a month, with internet TV streaming service, netgem.tv available for customers old and new.
WightFibre is rolling out its full-fibre network to help make the Isle of Wight the best connected island in the UK. Along with netgem.tv WightFibre have started an above the line (ATL) joint marketing campaign across the island covering all regional press, broadcast, bus shelters, railways and sheet billboards to promote being the best entertainment on the Isle of Wight’s fastest internet, as measured by average broadband speeds across the island.
The proposition is designed to support WightFibre’s newly upgraded network which will see full fibre broadband – all the way into your home and not just to the street cabinet, which is the case with leading broadband companies such as BT, Sky and TalkTalk. This network will reach over 60,000 of the 70,000 homes on the island by the end of 2020 with the aim to deliver unbeatable speeds of 900Mb, putting the island at the forefront of the digital economy.
As well as bringing customers an upgrade to their current broadband package, partnering with internet TV service netgem.tv means customers will have access to over 50,000 hours of online streaming content, which isn’t just personalised to each viewer, but consists of multiscreen, recording, and Freeview Play functionalities.
All new customers will gain one-year inclusive access to Amazon Prime which can be viewed through the netgem.tv service.
Sylvain Thevenot, Managing Director of netgem.tv comments: “We all want to watch high quality TV with seamless connectivity, and with the rise of “skinny bundles” with a low entry cost and general “pay as you go” approach, many broadband companies don’t supply premium content with their deals. We wanted to push a quality-first campaign in order to be on top of the great free on-demand TV offered through Freeview Play and with the fastest connectivity - so we made this a reality.”
John Irvine, CEO of WightFibre adds: ‘TV is a really important part of the offering in the UK marketing place where the end customer is now expecting to buy TV alongside their broadband, so being able to offer TV is extremely important. netgem.tv have a great value proposition, that brings next generation TV to our customers, that complements our Full Fibre rollout.'
