ISPA's 12th Annual Conference is taking place on Wednesday 8th November at the iconic BT Tower, London. It is ISPA’s largest and most high profile policy event and comes at a crucial time for the sector. Delegates will gain market insight, analyse and debate the pressing regulatory, legal, policy and technological issues including Openreach reform, Government support of full fibre, barriers to broadband roll out, online safety and cyber security.  The conference will explore the changing landscape, assess what impact it will have on ISPs and provide delegates with the opportunity to debate how providers should react to stay competitive in challenging market conditions.

For a limited time only, we are offering an Early Bird discount at £75 for ISPA Members and £195 for non ISPA Members.  Offer ends 22nd September 2017.

Busy month for broadband and cyber security policy

In what is traditionally regarded as a quieter period in Westminster and Whitehall, this August has seen a flurry of policy announcements on broadband and cyber security.   Two important parts of Government’s full fibre broadband policy have been progressing and ISPA has been representing members at Government working groups this month on the Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) Voucher Scheme and fibre rate relief.  This is in addition to work on plan and the design of the broadband USO, which plans to give everyone the right to request a 10Mbps connection.

The ISPA Broadband subgroup is meeting on September 14th to debate and respond to these and other related issues.   Cyber security continues to be a priority for the industry and this month saw Government publish its approach to implementing the Network and Information Systems (NIS) Directive and Ofcom consulting on its updated security guidance. NIS extends cyber security obligations centres through cyber security guidance and incident reporting to new sectors deemed Operators of Essential Services and Digital Service Providers. The latter includes cloud computing services, online search engines and online marketplaces.

ISPA is active on these and many other policy areas, through its policy working groups. Email admin@ispa.org.uk for further information on how you can get involved.

ADR Workshop

ISPA is pleased to be hosting a consumer regulation workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution with Ombudsman Services and ITSPA members on 28th September.

Ombudsman Services will explain how their ADR service works and will provide tips on how to deal with customer complaints efficiently.

Places are limited so if you are an ISPA member and wish to attend please RSVP to admin@ispa.org.uk.

ISPA in the Press

A variety of broadband stories in the press this month saw ISPA actively commenting on developments. We welcomed the positive news from Ofcom that broadband is getting faster, more data is being consumed and there is an increase in superfast broadband take-up, using a mix of technologies. We also responded to claims from Which, Citizens Advice and USwitch on broadband speeds and automatic compensation.
