ISPA Welcomes New Broadband Minister

ISPA welcomes Ed Vaizey, the Conservative MP for Wantage, as the new minister in charge of broadband. ISPA has met with Mr Vaizey in the past and intends to continue the cooperation.

The new Government has signalled its intentions in the Queen's Speech to invest in high-speed broadband connections and ISPA welcomes the plan to provide broadband access to all. ISPA believes that getting access to public services on the Internet should be of major importance to the new administration.

ISPA argues that the new government should focus on encouraging investment in high speed broadband and to help create a competitive market in these areas. In the small minority of areas where the market may not deliver, ISPA would welcome government efforts to ensure that no one is digitally excluded. In terms of speeds achieved, ISPA argues that NGA should be measured in services that can be delivered over the Internet, alongside specifying speed.'
