ISPA to Give Evidence to the Joint Committee on the Draft Communications Data Bill

ISPA will be giving oral evidence to the Joint Committee on the Draft Communications Data Bill this week. Government is currently looking to update its capabilities to capture and retain communications data and as well as giving oral evidence, ISPA has been consulting with members on its written response to the inquiry.

ISPA has said in its written response that it agrees that communications data retention capabilities for law enforcement purposes should keep pace with technological developments, however, there is a question over whether the broad powers outlined in the bill, which have the potential to retain unspecified data, are the most proportionate way of achieving this.
