ISPA kicks off 2018 on the front foot with two events

ISPA has kicked off 2018 on the front foot with a GDPR workshop held with ISPA Legal Forum Member Kemp Little in central London. The event included a detailed overview of the new requirements with practical steps that ISPs should be taking to demonstrate compliance.  A second workshop took place in Manchester later in the month held with another Legal Forum Member, DLA Piper. The session also provided practical guidance on GDPR and the impact on ISPs, but also included a presentation from Ombudsman Services on ADR and customer service and ISPA’s agenda for the year ahead.

Slides from the events are available to ISPA members.

Active Policy Agenda

The year started with a Government reshuffle, including the welcome promotion of Matt Hancock to Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DDCMS) and Margot James to Digital Minister. ISPA represented members at a Government  Business Connectivity Roundtable at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) led by the new Digital Minister, Margot James MP earlier this month.

We also attended an Open Internet Forum meeting to gain an incite from DCMS officials on the future of net neutrality after Brexit, and went to the Greater London Authority to attend a forum of infrastructure providers across different sectors to discuss future infrastructure needs in the capital.

ISPA responded to the Home Office Consultation on proposed amendments to the Investigatory Powers Act surrounding data retention. We called on the Government to fully and unambiguously meet the requirements of the judgement on the IP Act from the Court of Justice of the EU to ensure further legal challenges cannot be brought against the UK’s surveillance regime.

2018: a significant year for regulations

2018 sees the implementation of GDPR and the Network Information System (NIS) Directive in May, age verification site blocking legal framework starting in the Spring, detailed plans for a broadband USO, substantial broadband rollout plans by a number of providers, rising cyber security expectations, additional consumer protection measures and much more besides. ISPA is working with and on behalf of its members on these and other key issues. Get in touch with ISPA to find out further information about how you can get involved.
