This category is for organisations deploying improved broadband infrastructure in rural areas, in a part or the whole of the UK. Rural areas, for the purposes of this category are defined as small, less densely populated areas with populations fewer than 10,000 people and would be generally regarded as villages, hamlets or isolated dwellings.

If your organisation deploys improved broadband provisions for both urban and rural areas, please tailor your answer to be specific around your rural deployment. 

Entrants must answer the first set of questions stated below and provide a 750-word case study that includes the following information. Please provide as much information as you can, we appreciate some of this information may be commercially sensitive:

Questions:

  • What is your current footprint (premises passed/ live connections)
  • What is your growth in connection over the past 12 months (premises passed/ live connections)
  • Predicted size of footprint and plans by the end of 2024 (premises pass/ live connections)

Case Study Please give an overview of your infrastructure including an overview of the following elements:

  • How do you stand out in providing rural connections
  • The delivery challenges you have had to overcome, eg. topography, supply chain
  • Technologies you use (eg XGSPON, GPON, Fixed Wireless)
  • Overcome barriers to build.
  • Funding raised
  • Pricing (eg: flexibility, transparency)
  • Number of ISP partners on the network (if applicable)
  • How are you encouraging take up? You can disclose your current take up rate and take up growth this year (optional)
  • If wholesale, what support do you provide for partners, or if vertically integrated what support do you provide or customers, eg. products, portal, contracts, etc
  • How have you supported the local communities you have built in?
