ISPA's Annual Parliamentary Advisory Forum: e-Crime Reduction -

ISPA’s Annual Parliamentary Advisory Forum on the topic of e-crime reduction will be held on the 23rd February at Portcullis House in Westminster.

ISPA can confirm that the event will include a keynote speech from Home Office Minister Alan Campbell MP. The Forum will be hosted by the Rt Hon. Alun Michael MP, Chair of the UK IGF and the EURIM E-Crime Group.

The debate will focus on the methods of reducing e-crime and will include a speech from the DS Charlie McMurdie of the recently formed Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU).

The will bring together parliamentarians, government officials, key industry players and other relevant stakeholders to discuss this important and pertinent issue.

The event is from 2-5pm with an opportunity for a question and answer session from the audience. After the speeches attendees can informally continue discussions with parliamentarians and industry representatives over wine and canapes.

Registrations in for the ISPA Awards

Registrations are in for the ISPA Awards 2009, which has seen an excellent turnout again this year.

The finalists for the awards will be shortlisted based on the results of the technical testing or on the written entry form for non-technical categories. A panel of independent judges will then assess the value-added, and written entry forms. The deadline for the submission of value-added and written entry forms is the 31st March 2009.

The winners will be selected from the finalists based on a combination of the results of the technical testing and the marks from the judges. The panel of judges will meet to discuss each category before deciding upon a winner.

Please be aware of the following important dates leading up to the awards ceremony:

February 15th - Deadline for entrants to have specified number of isposure agents registered

February 15th-1st May - Technical testing period

March 31st - Deadline for the value added and written entry form to be completed and returned to ISPA electronically

Mid May - Finalists to be announced

July 9th - ISPA Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor Marriott Hotel in London

ISPA Secretary General appears on BBC Breakfast News
ISP requests for information and cost recovery

ISPA Secretary-General, Nicholas Lansman, spoke to the BBC about police requests to ISP’s for information. He subsequently appeared on the BBC Breakfast News, the BBC Today Programme and BBC News Online.

Mr Lansman reinforced the idea of cooperation between ISPs and the police and explained the rationale behind the principle of cost recovery.

Lord Carter’s Digital Britain Interim Report

ISPA Secretary-General, Nicholas Lansman, spoke on Sky News as well as BBC Radio 5 Live following the announcement of the Digital Britain Interim Report.

He welcomed Government’s recognition of the key role the Internet has to society and the economy and the need for further consultation with industry before the full report is published in the summer.

Safer Internet Day 2009 February 10th

Safer Internet Day 2009 (SID 09) on February 10th aims to raise awareness of the potential risks to children and young people online and ensure that their online experiences continue to be positive.

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) centre, supported by the UK Council for Child Internet Safety, is coordinating SID 09 activities for the UK and is keen to know about UK activities planned by other organisations.

Safer Internet Day takes place each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
